The Association was formed in June 2014 from the need to appeal the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s decision to close the spiritually thriving and financially solvent Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish and merge with neighboring Our Lady of Peace Parish to what the Archdiocese called a new parish. The decision left Notre Dame de Lourdes Church as a “worship site” instead of our Parish Church and the school without the spiritual support of an on-site active church. Hundreds of Notre Dame de Lourdes parishioners came together and the Association appealed the Archbishop’s decree all the way to the Vatican’s highest court.
After four years of navigating an unsuccessful appeal process, the Association focused its efforts on keeping the spirit of Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish alive and to support Catholic education. We are now parish friends and alumni keeping the spirit alive!
